International Middle School
EFI Bucarest is pleased to announce the opening of its Year 7 class for the start of the 2026 academic year.
Our middle school
The international secondary school comprises “6ème” to “3ème” (i.e Year 7 to 10 in the British system, Grade 6 to 9 in the American system). Building on the foundational learning acquired in primary school, the secondary school aims to help pupils acquire and consolidate the skills necessary for the development of their critical thinking and independence. Upon completion of the programme, pupils receive the french DNB (Diplôme national du brevet) with the ‘international’ option, enabling a smooth transition to any international secondary school.

- 5ème – i.e. Year 8 / Grade 7 (12–13 years old) – Opening in september 2027
- 4ème – i.e. Year 9 / Grade 8 (13–14 years old) – Opening in september 2028

Organisation and timetable
The school week runs over five days. Lessons take place from 8 am to 4 pm, with a one-hour lunch break, except on Wednesdays when lessons finish at 3 pm. This schedule amounts to 32 hours of teaching per week.
Educational approach
Building on the ‘half-half’ programme introduced in primary school, our educational approach is as follows: to enable pupils to develop a curiosity about the world around them, and to encourage them to question it — in French, English and Romanian.
The aim is to prepare children for the future: our tri-cultural environment fosters the development of critical thinking on the one hand; on the other hand, the range of opportunities for their future paths, made possible by the rigorous French accreditation our programme holds, must be emphasised. With this in mind, pupils are also prepared for Cambridge qualifications as part of their English lessons.
Individualised and personalised support
The small class sizes allow us to focus on providing careful, individualised support for our pupils. It is by focusing on each pupil’s needs – and by providing all the necessary resources to do so – that academic excellence is fostered and the healthy development of young people is ensured.
